The Brewers are off to a hot start in the second half, while the Rockies are stumbling out of the gate

The Rockies entered the All-Star break with hope. They had won eight out of their last 11 games, inching up the standings and generating wild card conversation. 

So much for those hopes. Colorado has stumbled into the second half, making it readily apparent that it isn’t a contender. 

The Rockies have lost three-straight games to the Brewers, finding new ways to lose on a nightly basis. They fell in 13 innings on Friday and dropped a 10-9 heartbreaker on Sunday. At this point, they’re just looking to get out of town. 

Kyle Freeland is on the mound for Colorado, which doesn’t bode well for its chances. The lefthander is 4-7 on the season, with a 4.96 ERA. In his last three starts, he’s given up 15 earned runs, as the Rockies have gone 1-2 in that span. 

The Brewers counter with Aaron Ashby. The lefty has been the victim of hard luck of late, as Milwaukee has lost his last two starts despite only three total runs crossing the plate. That’s been the story for most of the season, as Ashby is just 2-7 with a 4.57 ERA. 

But he catches a break today. Colorado is the worst road team in Major League Baseball, posting a 15-30 record so far this season. There’s no reason to believe that will change in the series finale against Milwaukee. 

The Brewers have come out of the All-Star break on fire, building their lead in the National League Central. The Rockies have not, as they languish 22.0 games behind the Dodgers in the NL West. 

One team has something to play for. The other does not. That’s been readily apparent during the first three games of this series. 

Don’t expect anything to change. Take the Brewers to finish the sweep.
